He has participated in many exhibitions in Ioannina and Thessaloniki, where he was awarded the second prize for the photography “Meteora” in 1960, the first prize for the photography “Papigo”, the third prize for the photography “Gate door in Metsovo” in 1965 and a distinction for the photography “The Vlach of Zaloggo” in 1966.

He offers his services at the Metropolitan Church of Ioannina for the construction and restoration of churches and monasteries.
In 1936, he is one of the founding members of the Ioannina Alpine Club.

He designed and almost constructed the alpine shelter on Mt Mitsikeli, which was inaugurated on July 9, 1939 by the Chairman of the Alpine Clubs Spelios Agapitos.

Dimitrios Salamagas wrote for Apostolos Vertodoulos on December 9, 1938 in the newspaper “EPIRUS” on the occasion of an exhibition of the photographer Meletzis: “We cannot forget the unique service that offered and continues to offer the Epirotic Section of the Alpine Club and we are greatly proud that we take the opportunity to refer to the amateur photographer Ap. Vertodoulos, who revealed the grandeur and the charm of the Epirotic mountains. His photographs appeared in the magazine “The mountain”.

Tolis Sakellariou writes in “IPIROTIKOS AGON” on January 26, 1961: “The other days, Apostolos Vertodoulos showed us 144 beautiful photos and his rich inner world in the hall of the Army Club. Apostolos Vertodoulos is an incurable nature lover”.

Rewards - Distinctions

Panhellenic Photography Competition: the second prize for the photography “Meteora” in 1960, the first prize for the photography “Papigo”, the third prize for the photography “Gate door in Metsovo” in 1965 and a distinction for the photography “The Vlach of Zaloggo” in 1966.

The Board of the Alpine Club decided to name it “Apostolos Vertodoulos Shelter” in order to honor him.

Other information

He called himself a nature lover, like his photographs. He used simple cameras, without special effects, but the sunlight. He left a rich archive of black and white photographs and colored slides.
