Sotiris Voulgaris opened up the company “Bulgari” in 1884, after leaving the Turkish-occupied Epirus for Rome, where he opened up his first jewellery shop on Via Sistina and later on Via Condotti. The art was bequeathed to his descendants and the business bloomed mainly in the ’70s, when they opened up the first shops outside Italy (New York, Paris, Geneva, and Monte Carlo). Today there are more than 230 shops all around the world. In the last years, “Bulgari” has extended his enterprising activities in hotel enterprises under that name, in collaboration with the hotel chain “Marriott”. The first hotel opened in Milan in 2004 followed by Bali in 2006; both hotels aim at wealthy travellers. The first shop on Via Condotti in Rome is still open.
